WHO ARE WE?

We are a bunch of men in Great Dunmow that have a laugh by trying new experiences every fortnight. When we're not doing that, we raise money for the local community through epic fundraising events like the Great Dunmow Soapbox Race.

It's about making friends, doing things you wouldn't usually get the chance to do, and making a difference (maybe with a beer in hand).

Pétanque and a curry on a Wednesday evening 🥘🪩

I’ll be honest before joining Round Table and coming along to socials like this I would have said Pétanque was someone that used to play for West Ham…

But alas… our social this week was at Dunmow Bowling Club as we were invited along to make the most of their Pétanque pitches while they competed in a Cup Match against other local bowls teams

Turnout was smaller than usual due to a once in a generation event happening with some Jaffa cakes or something but it separated the men from the boys when it comes to competitive sports (and eating a curry)

We played a few tense games before making the most of the on site bar and watched some games of competitive bowls… we then finished the evening by enjoying a curry at Pride of Sylhet on the high street

Our next social event is our annual cricket match against the Daniel Wilkinson Foundation and in September we will be visiting a brewery and enjoying a graffiti night 🎨🍻

🏸 BADMINTON, BEERS & B-…nibbles?🥘

This week’s social saw us hit the badminton courts for an evening of fierce competition, heroic lunges, dodgy serves and a few blokes discovering muscles they didn’t know they had 💪🏼

Once we’d all decided we were probably one game away from a serious injury, we did the sensible thing and headed out for food and a few well-earned drinks. 🍔🍻

Round Table isn’t about sitting in meetings every week! it’s about getting out, doing different things, having a laugh with a decent group of lads and raising money for good causes in the local community along the way.

We meet every other Wednesday and we’re always looking for new members aged 18–45.

Boules, beers, bbqs…

What more could you need on a sunny Wednesday night in Great Dunmow?

We went head to head against Great Dunmow 41 Club in a game of boules on the Rec on Wednesday night and there was obviously only going to be one winner!

We were also joined by Great Dunmow Ladies Circle for the evening and it was great to see them again!

A huge thanks to Toby for his expert BBQ skills and also to Tim from steelesbutchersdunmow for supplying the meat!

A great way to unwind and catch up with pals after putting on an event recently!

Our next social is in 2 weeks time where we’ll be playing another high octane adrenaline fuelled competitive sport with an evening of badminton with drinks and food afterwards

🚨 FORE! 🏌️

On Friday we hosted our first charity Golf Day at Great Hadham Country Club

10 teams entered to see who would come out on top and the winning margin ended up being by quite a big distance… congratulations to Tom & his team 💪🏼

The teams enjoyed a day of 18 holes followed by a 3 course meal and charity auction. There were also other mini games over the course of the day that included Beat the Pro with lucygoddardgolf, nearest to the pin and a speed hole round.

Most importantly, a lot of money was raised on the day that will go straight back to local charities and local people. We also had support from St Clare Hospice who will be getting a direction donation from us

A huge thanks must go to the local businesses that supported us and supplied refreshments, sponsorship and prizes for our charity auction.

We ended up raising an incredible amount that will truly make a real difference to people that need it!

This is what Round Table is all about, having fun in the sun but making a real difference in your community and helping those in need!

Our next event is our biweekly social this coming Wednesday and it promises to be a hot one.. regular refreshment breaks will be needed as we face Great Dunmow 41 Club in a competitively friendly game of boules followed by bee-… waters and a BBQ 🍺🍗

Meet the gaffer 👨🏼‍💼

Continuing our meet the squad series in aid of the World Cup, it’s the turn of 25/26 Chairman Mark ‘Royston’ Lipman

Royston moved to the area 7 years ago and saw Round Table as a great way to meet like minded people!

Him becoming chair after just 7 years shows what Round Table is all about, it’s not a closed shop or hierarchical, if you’re willing to get stuck in and get on with it, you’ll go far if that’s what you want!

If this is something that resonates with you and you’re looking to make some new mates while getting to do things you’d never normally do then give us a shout!

Things like go karting and paintballing don’t just have to be for stag dos with people you speak to once a year! And we don’t insist on dodgy t shirts either 👕 (although some still do…)

You will even raise some money and help people in your local area too 🤝

☀️ Beating the Heat at Shepherd’s Health! 💪

With the hot weather continuing, last Wednesday’s social was the perfect excuse to get out of the heat and focus on our health and fitness. Don’t worry, regular hydration breaks were undertaken!

A great evening was had by all at Shepherd’s Health, with the lads putting themselves through their paces, having a laugh and catching up. Thanks again to everyone at Shepherds Fitness & Health for looking after us! Our fortnightly socials are all about trying something different, building friendships and enjoying time together.

Round Table isn’t just about social events though! Throughout the year we also raise money for local charities and good causes, giving back to the community while having a great time along the way.

Our next fundraising event is next Friday for our charity Golf Day

If you’re a local man aged 18–45 looking to meet new people, enjoy a variety of social events every other Wednesday, and make a real difference in the community, we’d love to have you join us.

Our next few socials are an evening playing boules followed by an evening playing badminton. July is then rounded off with a weekend social paintballing so there really is something for everyone! A few cold drinks will also be enjoyed along the way as we take hydration just as seriously as professional footballers 🍺 🤝

Did you know Round Table is worldwide?

No, seriously. We’re not just a group of blokes who occasionally appear in matching polos and know far too much about local beer festivals.

Last week, four of our guys headed to Marmande in the South of France to meet up with Round Table clubs from France, Norway, Sweden, The Netherlands, Belgium, South Africa and Germany.

And what a few days it was.

There was gin tasting.
There was an Armagnac distillery.
There was incredible food.
There was fancy dress.
There was a gala dinner at a château.
And most importantly, there was a trailer-mounted grill that we are now emotionally attached to and may need for “official Table business”.

This is what Round Table is all about: new experiences, new friendships, great socials, and occasionally coming home with a strong belief that your local club absolutely needs industrial barbecue equipment.

Last night we went to IWM Duxford to visit the Aircraft Restoration Co and see all the incredible and interesting work they undertake 🔧

Most of their projects are either privately owned or government related so unfortunately it’s forbidden to share any pictures on social media… hopefully these artist impressions give a good idea on what we saw 🕵️✈️

A huge thanks must go to two of our tablers Matt and Stu (and Wayne & Dickie!) that sorted the private tour and showed us around their magnificent workplace 🤝

We then finished the night at a local pub for dinner, drinks and a good catch up!

This is something you genuinely could not do as a member of the public and just shows the exciting opportunities that Round Table gives you just from getting out of the house on a Wednesday evening!

We can’t promise that the next social will be as confidential or as exciting but it will still be a great laugh! Come along to a Poker Night or a health and fitness social

On Wednesday night a few of the guys were joined by members of the Great Dunmow 41 Club and visited Great Easton to see the Great Easton Railway. A huge thanks to Rob for the tour and hospitality.

It’s a local hidden treasure and definitely recommended as a day out for all ages! We look forward to working with them for future events so keep your eyes peeled 👀

Last night we celebrated a fantastic year for Great Dunmow Round Table at our AGM where around 40 of us packed into @thestarrinndunmow and enjoyed a 3 course meal.

Over the last year we have given away over £50,000 to local charities & people of Great Dunmow.

Last night marked the end of Dan & Gareth’s time as Chairmen and saw the ceremonial handing over of the reins to our new Chair for the year ahead Royston. We thank them both for a great year at the helm and everything they achieved as Chairmen

We also saw 5 new members officially inducted so a huge welcome to Adam, David, James, Tom & Tyler!

Leaving us we had a few members ‘age out’ into the 41 club. A huge congratulations and thanks must go to them for everything they have achieved with Round Table both in Great Dunmow and nationally. Steve, James, Jon & John we thank you and look forward to seeing you at future events in a supporting role.

We have a great year ahead with lots of events planned. If you’re reading this and thinking this is something you or someone you know would love to get involved with then drop us a message. This week a few of our guys headed over to Ace of Lanes in Bishops Stortford to take on other Round Table clubs from across Essex. 🎳

You might not know, but there are around 300 Round Table Clubs across Great Britain & Ireland, as well as many clubs around the world. 🌍

That means wherever you are there is always a chance to meet up, expand your network, and make a difference! 🙌🏼

Sadly, Dunmow placed 2nd, but we’ll have another go at bringing home the trophy next year! 🏆

Tonight was one of our quarterly business meetings where we discuss future plans and look to support local good causes with donations ❤️

We were able to give away £8,238.46 to a range of organisations including Great Dunmow Primary School and BASICS Essex 🙌🏼
